| Psalm 25:4-5 ”Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me
your paths;
guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior…”
Without my contacts or glasses I cannot see much very clearly at all. Things
are fuzzy and undistinguishable. But when I place my glasses on things
immediately sharpen, I can focus on objects in front of me, and I can
appreciate with greater fullness the beauty and details of creation that God
has placed in front of me. Isn't this true of our spiritual life? How earnestly
I need “God-glasses”! Without God as my basis, as my lens to view life through,
things are fuzzy and undistinguishable. If I allow my view to stay this way, if
I don’t seek God in prayer or read His Word, then my perspective will stay
unclear and out of focus. But with my God-glasses - when I seek God out in
prayer and through His Word, He promises to lead me, direct me, and guide me in
"paths of life." God knows we need to seek Him in order to live full,
not half-hearted, lives. Lives that are sure and secure and bring Him the most
glory. As I listened to the hymn Be Thou My Vision this morning my heart swelled... How
I want - how I need - God’s presence in my life as my light. How I yearn for
Him to be my Wisdom! I would never dream of getting behind the wheel of my car
to take a trip without my glasses on… God-vision…God-glasses....May we put
them on... and let the fuzziness of this world slip away as God sharpens our
hearts through His direction and guidance for us. As we live with our
God-glasses on may we be able to say more each day “Still be my vision, O
Ruler of All.”
Be Thou My Vision
by Dallan Forgaill
Be Thou my vision, O Lord of
my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my
light.
(Psalm 43:3 ”Send
forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let
them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell.”)
Be Thou my Wisdom, and
Thou my true Word; (Psalm 119:133 “Direct my footsteps according to your
word...”) I ever with Thee, Thou with
me, Lord; Thou my great Father, and I thy true son; Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise,
Thou mine inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heaven’s Son!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O Ruler of All.
| "...because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them. Such a High Priest meets our need—One who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens."

| Have You Eaten a Hibiscus Today?

Bennett and I discovered a unique treat while shopping at Trader Joe's....dried Hibiscus flowers! It sounded cool, a little exotic perhaps, and the oddity of it made me want to try it for the experience! And they're good! If you're looking for something different, hibiscus flowers would make you happy. They actually taste a lot like dried cranberries, though they've got a different texture (it must be the flower petals, kinda like spider legs or something...not that I've eaten spider legs...) But yeah, we had fun, and Bennett loved eating them, can't you tell?
| "All of us who believe in Christ are immeasurably rich in Him and have so much to live for!" (I can't remember who said this, but once I find out I'll credit him. ) Two quick thoughts... First, we have so much to live for! When life hits road humps it's easy to become self-focused. When we're feeling pain it's easy to turn inward and to allow our mind to either remain "blah" or run over and over with thoughts involving our self ...... to remain disinterested in others' needs - their need to talk, for counsel, or for us simply to initiate conversation or probe them with questions about their life and walk and where God is taking them and what He is teaching them. I know that it means so much to me when others sincerely ask me how I am doing and I pray God will keep me sensitive to recognize times and opportunities when others may need that question sincerely asked to them. This kind of interest and investment in people gives us something great to live for! And second, guess what?! We are so rich even the swankiest bank in the world couldn't measure - much less hold or even comprehend - our richness in Christ! (1 Cor. 2:9) Okay, and that alone gives us so much to live for, right?! In Christ! Not Laura - because Laura alone is devastatingly destitute and worthless... But because of Christ, and because of my life in Christ, I am a child of the King. Now my purpose - and your purpose - as Believers is to live for the glory of God each day. And that is huge. | | |
| I have fallen to my knees As I sing a lullaby of pain, I'm feeling broken in my melody As I sing to help the tears go away... Then I remember the pledge You made to me!
I know You're always there To hear my every prayer inside - I'm clinging to the promise of a lifetime! I hear the words You say , To never walk away from me and leave behind The promise of a lifetime. Will You help me fall apart? Pick me up, take me in Your arms, Find my way back from the storm? And You show me how to grow Through the change.
I still remember the pledge You made to me!
I am holding on to the hope I have inside - With You I will stay through every day Putting my understanding aside...
...And I am comforted. -- Promise of a Lifetime
